Yesterday my landlord showed up and told us that we’re being evicted after living here for 7 years, through no fault of our own. The only family in the building. The reason? Twofold actually. Their official reason is because their junkie son is moving in. The real reason however is because they attempted to illegally raise our rent by $100 per month when the maximum allowable by law was something like $27. We settled at a $35 increase, but I guess that wasn’t good enough for these greedy money-grubbing pieces of shit. Did I mention that the landlord lives in a house two cities over and threw out their basement suite tenant last year so his junkie son could move in there? Well they did. Literally the only reason they’re moving him here is because they can bring in more cash. My wife works for BC Housing and we’re going to have a field day with these assholes, but as it stands I have 2 months to find a place and get out.
So with that said, there are no longer any limits to my volume control.

Say hello to my little friend. 18" 1500w Yorkville LS800p powered subwoofer
Even the old lady across the street can’t help but join in on the fun...
Edit: 3pm update. Don’t let the bass get ya.
That sub is only turned up around 30% of the way fwiw. Much higher and it drowns out the tops, can't be played at my usual reasonable volume, and becomes painful in that space. As it stands every time the bass hits my tv screen distorts from the pressure as if someone was pressing on the panel. Good times.

Fuck dude, that sucks. What’s the plan? Let me know if you need a hand with anything.
Edit: It occurs to me that they have been itching to do this for a while, hitting you on the day 1 of evictions being allowed again

Why could they only legally raise it $27?

The government sets a percentage that dictates the maximum allowable yearly increase.

We have provincially mandated rent increase caps

We've sent a couple of inquiries so far, but we'll see. If I had my druthers I'd go east and buy a house cash, but the wife's mom is here so that probably isn't happening any time soon.... though she did start talking about going to Alberta today out of pretty much nowhere. Who knows. We shall see I guess.

Done and Done.
The siding and sheetrock might as well go too.
Sorry about the bad news. Hope it’s not too awful a change.

If anything in my life goes south, I’m bailing and starting anew on the east coast.
I don’t care if I spend the rest of my life working minimum wage. I’d be OK.

Honestly I've wanted to move for a while. This place was affordable which is what has kept us here, but the landlord is terminally cheap and it's falling down around us and he won't invest a cent on upkeep. I might just fall through the rotten patio that he's refused to re-sheet before I go and take the joint off of his hands for him, lol.

In the US you just stop paying rent, it can take 6 months to get evicted and escorted out by the county sheriffs . So I see 6 months of free rent here.

Interesting, wasn’t aware that was a thing in Canada . As with everything there are positives and negatives, especially depending on your point of view. This is one of those scenarios where there’s really no right or wrong.

Depends on where you live, I believe SC is a lot faster than that.
I didn’t pay rent for a year, but that was due to a glitch on their end. I wrote a check for the amount because I didn’t think it was worth the stress and effort to try and keep the money.

Here if you don't pay they issue a 10 day notice and put your shit on the curb on day 11. My rent has been paid in full and on time, every time.

They’ve plotting since the day we refused to cough up the extra dough. The guy sends me pictures of his water bill and cries as if it’s my 3 year olds fault, while the downstairs unit has had up to 7 people in a 2br unit. I put $100 worth of led floodlights in the carport that cost a whopping 15 cents per billing period to run and he whined until I removed them, so now it’s pitch black and a liability. They’ll figure it out when someone sues the house from under them.

As someone who’s job it is to find renters for multifamily housing, DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!!!!
One eviction on your record will disqualify you for any type of rental housing for years. I can’t tell you how many people have been denied at locations of been working at. Thousands. Literally thousands, because of negative rental history. Some of it is decades old and people still get denied.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GET EVICTED. At least if you can help it.

I'll keep paying the rent even after I move out and keep them locked out for as long as I'm legally allowed. On the bright side because we're being booted under these circumstances the government says they have to refund us for 1 months rent. So I've got that going for me.

I’ve got this for them, if they have the balls to show their faces around here before moving day. Which I doubt they will... but it’s in the crate JIC.

You’re more than welcome here! The housing market is nutbars here right now though.....well...for us anyway....prices are still way below what you guys have to deal with :S

This sucks man....keep us apprised and hopefully it all works out. :(
I’d suggest not bothering the neighbo
rhood though you don’t want that on your record in case it affects you getting another place elsewhere and your neighbours may not like it, as much as you do...

A woman I that worked in the office at a job I left decades ago owned some rental properties. She had a tenant 3 months behind on rent. She took them to court, and just ordered she give 90 days before eviction. She was livid. She called her husband and had him remove the door from the apartment entrance. Note she left said “They said I had to let you live here for 90 days, they didn’t say I had to provide you with a door.” Tenant was gone next day.
